0.0.0.0 on its own means “this host on this network”
Short answer
0.0.0.0 on its own means “this host on this network”: a device with no address yet, or a program listening on every interface.
What it means
RFC 1122 lets a device use 0.0.0.0 as its source address while it is still asking for one (for example in a DHCP request). Server software also binds to 0.0.0.0 to mean “accept connections on every network interface”.
It is never the address of a website or a remote person.
What to do
- If your device reports 0.0.0.0, it has no address: reconnect or restart the router.
