The registrar is blocking renewal.
The registry rejects requests to renew the domain. Registrars rarely set this; when they do, it is usually because of a dispute, an unpaid balance or a domain that is on its way to deletion.

Why it matters
A domain that can’t be renewed will expire. If it runs your email, that ends with mail bouncing.
When you’d see it
A registrar might set this while a payment is disputed or after a terms-of-service complaint. The visible symptom is that the renew button disappears or fails, while the expiry date keeps getting closer.
How it shows up in a lookup
In a gTLD WHOIS lookup it appears as “Domain Status: clientRenewProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientRenewProhibited”; RDAP shows it as “client renew prohibited”. It is a client status, so only your registrar can add or remove it; the registry enforces it.
What to do
If you want to keep the domain, contact your registrar now and ask why renewal is blocked and what resolves it.
Combination rules
pendingRenew must not be combined with clientRenewProhibited (RFC 5731 §2.3).
